Imagine that you have a domain name of mydomain.com and you have a website at http://www.users.isp.co.uk/member/index.html - sound familiar?
Ok, you now want to use your domain name so that if someone types in www.mydomain.com into their browser that they not only get redirected (web forwarded) to www.users.isp.co.uk/member/index.html but that it hides the address of www.users.isp.co.uk/member/index.html keeping www.mydomain.com in the browser. To to this you need URL masking.
Most ISPs can offer URL masking but the way in which most do is to put a frame around your site so that it encapsulates it leaving the domain name in the browser. This is OK if all you want to do is hide the actual website address but not OK if you want search engines to index your site correctly, if you want the address in the browser to reflect the actual file being accessed on your website, or if you want to be able to jump straight to a sub-directory of your site or link from another site keeping the masking intact.
Frames based URL masking will mask the actual site address but no matter which page/link people click in your website all they will ever see is www.mydomain.com.
However our URL masking would, in addition, change the address in the browser in relation to the filename of your hosted site to show http://www.mydomain.com/filename1, http://www.mydomain.com/filename2 etc... thereby giving a better impression that your site is actually hosted on your domain even though it is not.
Moreover with our masking service you get detailed stats and logs on the visitors to your website - click here for an example.
Here is just a small sample of the thousands of URL masked domains and their actual hosted websites to give you a real idea of what we mean:
| Masked Domain | Actual Site |
|---|---|
| http://www.chineseelvis.com | http://www.mu-lan.org/chineseelvis/ |
| http://www.paulauster.co.uk | http://www.babble.plus.com/paulauster/ |
What's more you can take advantage of our masking simply by registering a domain name or transferring an existing one into our service!
